Bridging the Distance: YBM BRILiaN and Bike Kawan Pedal for Kindness in Remote Pekanbaru
PEKANBARU – Distance is never a barrier to sharing happiness. On Sunday (01/03), YBM BRILiaN Regional Office (RO) Pekanbaru collaborated with the Bike Kawan (a local cycling community) to launch a social action titled “Bike Baik.” Navigating the routes toward the Kubang area, the team journeyed together to visit dozens of foster children at the Nur Ilahi Orphanage, a facility situated in a secluded location far from the main residential hubs.
A Humanitarian Mission in the Heart of Kubang
YBM BRILiaN specifically chose the Nur Ilahi Orphanage as its primary focus because its remote location often results in the children there being overlooked by public attention. Through the spirit of “Bike Baik,” volunteers sought to ensure that these children felt the warmth of communal care during this holy month.
During the visit, the team distributed Kado Lebaran (special Eid al-Fitr gift packages) totaling IDR 8,400,000 for 28 beneficiaries. Additionally, sembako (essential food supplies) were provided to ensure the orphanage’s nutritional needs are met throughout the month of Ramadan.
Festivities While Awaiting the Fast-Break: From Archery to Storytelling
The atmosphere at the location was vibrant and filled with a sense of togetherness. Beyond the distribution of aid, volunteers engaged the children in various educational activities while waiting for the time to break their fast—a tradition locally known as ngabuburit. Laughter filled the air as the children tried their hand at archery, listened to inspiring stories, and expressed their creativity through paper crafting.
This initiative received heartfelt appreciation from the orphanage management. One of the beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude for the kindness that traveled a long way to reach them.
“This activity is incredibly meaningful to us. We are so grateful for the Kado Lebaran we received,” they shared with deep emotion.
Community Synergy for Wider Impact
Interestingly, this action was born from the strong bond of silaturahmi (the Islamic concept of maintaining communal ties and fellowship) between YBM BRILiaN Pekanbaru and the local cycling community. This synergy proves that a shared hobby can become a powerful engine for social good.
The “Bike Baik” program is expected to serve as a catalyst for other communities to increase their awareness of orphanages and remote areas that are seldom reached by aid. YBM BRILiaN remains committed to reaching the furthest corners of the region, ensuring that every trust from our donors is delivered to those truly in need, no matter the distance.
