JAKARTA — The presence of the Director of Zakat and Waqf Empowerment (Dirzawa) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Waryono Abdul Ghafur, marked a significant milestone in the convening of the YBM BRILiaN Zakat Administrators Communication Forum (Forkom). Held at Menara BRILiaN, Tebet, South Jakarta, on Saturday (31/01/2026), the forum served as a national consolidation space for YBM BRILiaN zakat administrators across Indonesia to strengthen sustainable zakat governance.

Carrying the theme “Accelerating Goodness for Sustainable Impact,” the forum brought together YBM BRILiaN organisational bodies throughout Indonesia. Amid increasingly complex zakat management dynamics, Prof. Waryono’s attendance provided strategic perspectives and policy direction reinforcement for administrators on the frontline of serving the ummah.

In his address and presentation during the opening ceremony, Prof. Waryono emphasised that public trust in BRI and YBM BRILiaN is not created instantly, but is built through the integration of good governance and institutional legitimacy. He stated that zakat institutions must bridge worldly and hereafter dimensions. “Public trust stems from robust governance. An institution’s orientation must address not only profit, but also the hereafter as its ultimate objective,” he said.

Furthermore, Prof. Waryono underlined the importance of accuracy and precision in targeting within zakat management. He conveyed that future distribution and utilisation of zakat must be based on a single socioeconomic dataset, so that interventions genuinely respond to the needs of mustahik (rightful beneficiaries). This data-driven approach is deemed crucial to ensuring programme impact sustainability and maintaining public trust in zakat management institutions.

In the context of day-to-day duties, Prof. Waryono also reminded administrators of their strategic role as the embodiment of institutional values before society. He stressed that ethical communication forms an important foundation in building healthy relationships with stakeholders. The principles of Quranic communication—Qaulan Sadida (honest and accurate), Qaulan Layyina (gentle and empathetic), Qaulan Baligha (effective and on target), Qaulan Karima (noble and respectful), and Qaulan Maisura (easily understood)—must be internalised so that the institution’s message is conveyed truthfully, empathetically, effectively, and with dignity.

This communication forum was not merely a national gathering, but also a space for reflection and reinforcement of the administrator’s role in addressing future zakat management challenges. Through the presence of Dirzawa of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, YBM BRILiaN reaffirmed its commitment to continue moving in line with national policy directions, strengthening governance, and ensuring that zakat is managed professionally, accountably, and sustainably for the welfare of the ummah.
