The Story of Khusnul Nasikin: Finding His Path to Entrepreneurship and Managing Three Screen-Printing Workshops in Sidoarjo

In a corner of Keboharan Village, Krian Subdistrict, Sidoarjo Regency, the hum of screen-printing machines and the hustle and bustle of fulfilling T-shirt orders are a daily sight at Tukang Sablon Keboharan (TSK). This business, which is now well-established and continues to grow, was founded by Khusnul Nasikin despite his limited initial experience in screen printing.
Khusnul’s journey began in 2019. At that time, he had a strong desire to improve his family’s standard of living but was hindered by a lack of capital and technical expertise. That was when YBM BRILiaN stepped in through the Mustahik Income Generating Program (MIGP)—formerly known as the People’s Business Skills Program (PKUR)—to pave the way for business development.
Step-by-Step Mentoring and Business Resilience
The initial intervention was comprehensive. Rather than simply providing business capital for equipment and raw materials, YBM BRILiaN also assigned Wiwit Trisningati as a field mentor. For a full year, Khusnul was guided to master screen printing techniques, daily financial management, and strategies for serving customers.
A major challenge arose when the COVID-19 pandemic struck, causing TSK’s operations to temporarily grind to a halt due to a lack of orders. Amid difficult economic conditions and post-pandemic competition in the printing industry, Khusnul’s perseverance and the application of business management skills learned during the mentoring period became the key to sustaining her business.
Sweet Rewards: The Transformation Toward Business Independence
A field visit on Wednesday (10/21) provided a vivid picture of the progress of Khusnul’s business. TSK Screen Printing, which began on a small scale, has now successfully expanded and independently manages three active screen printing workshops.
Khusnul is now able to run his business with greater confidence. He has grown into an independent local entrepreneur and is able to create job opportunities for the local community.
“My deepest gratitude to YBM BRILiaN for supporting us. From our humble beginnings, we’ve now been able to open three workshops. May this program continue to bring widespread benefits to the community,” said Khusnul.
Through the targeted and sustainable utilization of zakat and infaq from muzakki and donors, Khusnul Nasikin’s story reflects how empowerment efforts can guide a mustahik toward economic independence.
