The Story of Nikmatul Karamah: Strengthening Economic and Family Foundations with YBM BRILiaN
Running a business while caring for a low-income family certainly presents its own challenges. These are the circumstances faced by Nikmatul Karamah, a resident of Kebonagung Village, Sukodono Subdistrict, Sidoarjo Regency. Amid financial constraints, she struggles to meet the family’s basic needs while ensuring her six children receive proper care and a decent education.
The Early Stages and Growth of the Business
Before achieving the success she enjoys today, Mrs. Nikmatul’s family faced significant financial constraints. To cover daily expenses, she had to take on various odd jobs with no guarantee of a stable income. This situation made it difficult for her to care for her young children at home.
A turning point began when Mrs. Nikmatul received business capital support from the Family Strengthening
program of the YBM BRILiaN Regional Office
in Surabaya. With this assistance, she began her soy milk business. By maintaining the quality of her product—which is savory, delicious, and thick—her business gradually grew. YBM BRILiaN, YBM BRILiaN Surabaya, Family Strengthening, Economic Empowerment, Soy Milk Business, Inspirational Story, Empowered Beneficiaries, BRI Employee Zakat, Sidoarjo MSMEs, Kebonagung Village, Sidoarjo, Zakat Business Capital, Economic Independence, MSME Success Stories, Business Capital Assistance, YBM BRILiaN Empowerment Program, and has gained recognition among the community and an ever-growing customer base.
Business Achievements and Impact on the Community
Her perseverance has now yielded tangible results. Starting her business from scratch, Mrs. Nikmatul has achieved several milestones. Mrs. Nikmatul successfully manages three sales stalls with a net income of around Rp500,000 per day—a significant increase from her initial situation before joining the program.
Not only does she support herself, but she also empowers local residents by hiring them to help manage the stalls and paying them a daily wage, thereby helping to supplement the income of her neighbors. Equally important, the stalls’ location—closer to her home—means Mrs. Nikmatul no longer has to travel to different places for work. She can run her business productively while still having enough time to look after her children.
“From a mother who started a business with very limited resources, I now have three stalls, a net income of around Rp500,000 per day, and am able to provide job opportunities to others,” she said.
The growth of Mrs. Nikmatul’s business demonstrates how the guidance and capital support from YBM BRILiaN help foster economic independence and support the continuity of family roles. YBM BRILiaN remains committed to supporting its beneficiaries so they can become self-reliant and thrive in the future.
